Human Footprint

This is very interesting. Click on the link, and then click on the dot that says USA. It might be depressing on how many Earths it would take if everyone lived like you. Sorry again. I probably sent you 3 emails now. Read the third one and click on the title of the blog post. That is the link.

Pretty cool, Grace. I have spent a lot of time studying how to measure the impact of our lifestyles on the planet. This is probably the most well-known way to measure it. It was invented by two researchers at the University of British Columbia, in Vancouver.

In the United States, we use between 5 and 25 times as much energy and materials (things like steel, other metals, wood, plastics, etc.) per person as people do in developing countries (like, say, most of Africa). So one American usually has much more impact on the planet than, say, one Senegalese person. Unless you don't eat meat, only use public transit, and live in a small house (or, even better, an apartment in an energy-efficient building right on a transit line).

We should talk more about this at Christmas!
